Week 9 - Thing 23 - Thank you School Library Learning 2.0
I knew I was going to appreciate this program as soon as I saw the description for it. I knew this because I had been feeling overwhelmed with what I did not know about web 2.0. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to catch up. I loved the format of the program. Being able to work at my own pace and spend the time that I needed on the things that I know I will be able to use was very helpful. Being able to read blog postings from others completing the program at the same time was useful as was having a good cheerleader and director that I knew were always available for help and support. There was a lot of information introduced and I know I still have a lot to learn but at least now I feel more comfortable with some of the terms and I know I can take what I can use and do more with it. Thank you. This was great.
Week 9 - Thing 22 - E-Books and Audio Books
Finally, something I am already fairly familiar with. Although I would much prefer to sit down with a good book with pages, I am also thrilled that I am able to download audio books from my public library. I purchased an inexpensive mp3 player and download a book to it periodically which I then listen to when I walk for exercise. What a great thing to be able to multitask. There's just too many books and too little time. You have to fit them in when you can.
Also, these days more and more of our students textbooks are also available as e-books. No more lugging them back and forth as well as no more homework excuses for forgotten books. I think this is a great thing but I don't think I could read an e-book for fun.

Week 9 - Thing 21 - Podcasts
With the written word you may have to read something several times before fully understanding it. A podcast allows you to do this with the spoken word. What a great tool to be able to listen to something more than once. A tutorial or a professor's lecture could take on more meaning after the second or third listen. I see a lot of potential power in the podcast.

Week 9 - Thing 20 - You Tube
Well, I have to be honest. It's not that I hate You Tube. I just really don't see the purpose of it other than being an avenue to waste some time. I did enjoy the video on being a School Library Media Specialist that I was finally (after much agony) able to add to this blog. I first tried over a week ago and could not get this blog added to my You Tube account. I had to walk away. I was getting too frustrated. I just tried again and it worked right away. I had some trouble adding the blog but finally, here it is.
I guess I would have to admit that I could see some benefit in having videos like this on a library website it it could be in the form of a tutorial of some sort. I think we have seen a few of those during this course.

Week 8 - Thing 19 - Library Thing
Nice! Still learning about it though and I'm not sure how I will use it but for now it's just a nice way to keep track of what I have read recently.

Week 8 - Thing 18 - Online Word Processing with Zoho
Well, the previous blog post says it all. And I created it and posted it to this blog right from within Zoho. I see many possibilities with this tool. I can't wait to share it with my fellow teachers.
